Mitchell Family
(March 2008 update)
Family – Jon, Janet, Jacinta & Josie Mitchell
Location – Papua New Guinea (PNG), Tsoilik Island which is located North West off the Northern tip of New Ireland. Tsoilik is part of a group of islands that are populated by the Lavongai People. There are approximately 15000 people in this people group and they speak four different dialects of the Tungak Language.
Even though the Lavongai People Group is large there is still today resistance to the Gospel being taught. But it is the people of the little island Tsoilik that welcomed missionaries only some 10 years ago, all other islands refused missionaries entry. So we feel blessed to be amongst these people.
Agency – We are members of New Tribes Mission Australia and are also affiliated with Australian Missionary Tidings. These agencies provide the infrastructure which enables us to concentrate on learning the local dialect so then in turn we will be able to teach the gospel to people in villages that don’t have the opportunity to hear the Truth.
Current Duties & Responsibilities – Primarily it is our objective to learn the vernacular or mother language (Tungak). We feel that it is important that people hear the Gospel in their mother language such that they clearly hear and fully understand the Truth in such a way that will be convicted of their sin and turn to Jesus and His salvation plan.
Second to the above we have many roles that complement the existing ministries amongst the Lavongai People. For example - studying and documenting the culture, continue working on a Tungak dictionary, disciplining and encouraging spiritual growth of the few believers, challenging the believes of the unbelievers that are on the islands. Also we are a source of fellowship and support to the 3 other New Tribes Missionaries that live on the island.
The Future – Although there are a few churches in the area, the teaching is not according to scripture. Rather is a mixture of traditional fears, customs and Bible stories (syncretism). So it is our desire to see a Church establish itself on Biblical Truths. We believe that this is best done by teaching the Gospel using the local dialect and local settings. This will ensure the Truths are not only heard but completely comprehended to the extent that, Lord willing it convicts the hearer of their need of salvation.
Prayer Point - Please join us and pray that God will clearly lead us in working with the Lavongai People. That He will be preparing the hearts of these people to accept the Gospel and turn from the lies and deceit that Satan has blinded them with for so many generations. Please pray for the Mitchell family that we all will be great ambassadors for Jesus in this unpredictable country. Also that He will keep us safe and healthy so we may continue to serve Him.
Thank You - Thank you all so much for being our partners in this exciting work. We find it exciting as we see God build His Church here in PNG and we are continually amazed that the Lord of Lords and King of Kings has chosen the people of Raymond Terrace Community Church and the Mitchell’s to do His work through us. Now that’s something to be joyful about!!!
All For His Glory

McCrindle
Family
The McCrindle family are in the Middle East
and have commenced a new mission in supporting expatriates. They are
seeing people come to Christ almost every week.
Johannesen Family
Byron, Lyn and Alissa Johannesen are currently in Colombia. The first stage of the e campsite which they have been working on is completed with 6 dormitories and enough room to sleep 90 people. A bedroom next to the kitchen can house up to four cooks and there is a very comfortable apartment with three small bedrooms for the caretakers, 2 dressing rooms, a laundry area and toilets. There is a garden area in the middle of the buildings which can double as an area to sit for small groups during recreational times. During the first stage the cement slab was poured for the second story.
Over Easter they held a Youth Camp which was a huge success with at least 5 young people receiving the Lord as their Saviour and several being challenged to rededicate their lives to the Lord.
